MANAGING DIRECTOR | ARCHITECT
LEIGH RICHARDSON
Leigh loves comical mugs, ordered stationery, driving buses and various shades of pale ale.
WHO IS LEIGH?
Maker of connections, enemy of silos. Leigh consistently finds new ways to bring things together—people and their environment. He loves the diversity of his work, and the active and engaged clients who add so much value to the design process. Leigh breaks down barriers of all kinds. Whether it’s trying out new materials, carving out integrated spaces or expressing an organisation’s values and culture through design, his quest for meaningful connection is evident throughout his work. When designing a space, Leigh thinks about the memories people will have.
As a cofounder of SDA, Leigh has brought clarity in his leadership of complex projects with multi-layered client and consultant teams. He has worked across many markets, from individual tenant spaces to new commercial developments, as well as university and civic buildings. Along the way he has forged and cultivated enduring relationships with major public and private clients.
ON BEING AN ARCHITECT
I enjoy the journey and process of architecture, the refinement of a thought or an idea over time to eventually result in the physical built form. Seeing the enjoyment of people using a building or space makes the process worthwhile, satisfying and motivating.
